Infor LX & BPCS Tip: 4 Approaches to Customizing LX / BPCS - Preparing for a Future Upgrade
How do I modify BPCS/LX to allow for the ease of upgrading in the future?
In BPCS and LX 8.3, many customizations were done by modifying the programs delivered by Infor. This practice resulted in constantly modifying those customized programs when new revisions were delivered by Infor. Today’s LX has many more options for you to consider that simplify and often enhance how customizations are done.
Approaches to Customizing LX
- Exit Points – Many LX programs have exit points. From the LX menu, call SYS635D1 to view and manage all existing Exit Points and the programs that are called. Also, review the Exit Points Reference on Infor Support Portal for details on each exit point.
- User-Defined Files/Fields – Allows access to additional master file fields without making database changes or changing maintenance programs. From the LX menu call SYS108D1 to view and manage User-Defined Files. Also, download the Infor LX V8.4.0 Release Notes Net Change guide on Infor Support Portal for more information.
- IDF Integrator – A development framework for customizing and developing business objects that can be deployed to PCs or in browsers. An interactive briefing on IDF customizations is available on Infor Support Portal in KB 1641659.
- ION and LX Extension – Infor’s Intelligent Open Network (ION) allows applications to send and receive XML documents referred to as Business Object Documents (BODs). There are several good guides on Infor Support Portal on this topic including the Infor LX Configuration Guide for Infor Operating Service, the Infor LX Inbound BOD Mapping and Descriptions and the Infor LX Outbound BOD Mapping and Descriptions Guide.
